Application Updates

So what happens when you update…..

There are actually three components to updating the application:

1.  Updating the information itself in the core application (i.e. flight hours, work history, education history, etc.)

2.  The airline-specific addendum questions

3.  Updating the "application date"

Any updates you make to the information within your application (flight hours, work history, education history, flight time, etc.) are reflected instantly in your application to all published employers the moment you click the "Save" button.

Separately and differently, the "Update" button serves to refresh your "application date". The "application date" lets employers know you're still interested in that company/airline. Airlines have the ability to view applications within a certain recency (i.e. 30 days, 180 days, etc.). That's why you'll want to update your application date fairly often.  The "Update" button does not re-publish an application.  There is no re-publish functionality.  Once an application is published, you can only update it or remove it from your targeting list (if you have a membership account).

Publishing, removing, and then re-targeting and publishing again submits an additional application in the employer's system.  That can be problematic and puts the onus on the employer to understand which application is your intended version.

CFR §121.436

There remains confusion about exactly what 121.436 time is and means.  CFR §121.436 is the regulation that dictates how much experience is needed to upgrade to captain for Part 121 operations. That number is 1,000 hours of “qualified” time.  The FAA's intent is to count time that comparably mirrors a multi-crew, 121 operating environment. They allow qualifying aircraft and time from Part 121, Part 135, Part 91, and Military flying. Seeing a time value in your 121.436 section does not necessarily mean you have Part 121 time/experience; rather, it simply means portions of your background qualifies for 121.436 credit.  We encourage you to click here to read the CFR § 121.436 language.

Additionally, the FAA has specifically said it will not include instructor time in the 121.436 totals, neither civilian nor military.

New Employment History Page

You may have noticed we updated the employment history section.  There are multiple reasons for this, one of which is to move towards a standardized list of employers.  If you simply begin typing any portion of the company’s name, you will see a list of companies containing the letters you’ve typed.  Once you see your company’s name, simply select it from the list.  If your company is not listed, you can simply type your company’s name.

For military applicants, we suggest listing the service branch as the Employer name.  You can then list your specific unit and duties in the “Duties” section.

School eMail Addresses

We routinely receive support requests from applicants who used a school or college email address when creating their account.  When they’re no longer a student, they lose that email address.  This means they may not receive emails from employers attempting to process that application, and they won’t be able to receive password reset emails to that address.  Therefore, we do not recommend using school/college email addresses.

As always, if you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact us.
