Job Description: Dispatcher
Department: Operations Location: Manassas, VA
Reports To: Manager of System Control
Job Summary:
Share operational control and responsibilities with the pilot in command. Dispatch all flights operated by Colgan Air, Inc. in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities:
§ Knowledgeable of FARs Security, HMR & Company manuals as apply to Dispatch and Crew Scheduling.
§ Act as “on call” dispatcher during assigned periods.
§ Monitor the progress of each flight. Remain constantly aware of location and status of all company aircraft.
§ Act as focal point between Maintenance Control and the PIC to ensure proper handling of DMI’s MEL issues and aircraft repairs at non-maintenance bases. Notify Maintenance Control whenever a mechanical irregularity is reported by the PIC.
§ Issue necessary information for the safety of the flight and monitor Company Radio.
§ Cancel or re-dispatch a flight if, in the opinion of the Dispatcher or Pilot-in-Command, the flight cannot operate or continue to operate safely as planned and released.
§ Monitor the weather along flight routes and at all destinations and alternate airports.
§ Coordinate with followers.
§ Record flight “OUT”, “OFF”, “ON” and “IN” times and transfer these times into the Company computer or other appropriate hard copy format.
§ Review all classifications of NOTAMS for their effect on Company operations.
§ Provide complete and accurate information, forms and equipment to crews operating charter trips or irregular operations.
§ Promptly notify Reservations of any changes to operational schedule.
§ Maintain open communication with other departments.
§ Batch, audit and file releases on a daily basis.
§ Ensure flight crew duty and flight time limitations are suitable for their duty assignments.
§ Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
§ Be at least twenty-three (23) years of age and possess a High School Diploma or GED.
§ Valid Driver’s License & FAA Dispatch License are required.
§ Able to work a variety of shifts and overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
§ Ability to work with the public under stressful conditions.
§ Proficient computer / telephone skills.
§ Possess motivated and self starter characteristics and have ability to work as a team player.
§ Must be a U.S. Citizen or have authorization to work in the U.S. as defined in the Immigration Act of 1986.
§ Fluently read, write and speak the English language.
