Rotor Transition Program

Mesa Airlines

Helicopter pilots interested in making the transition to fixed wing aircraft and becoming a first officer are eligible for Mesa Airlines’ Rotary Transition Program that is partnered with Coast Flight Training in San Diego, California. Mesa Airlines recognizes the skills associated with helicopter flying. Rotary Wing time may be included in Total Time.

Mesa currently operates 143 aircraft, with more than 687 daily system departures to 129 cities, 41 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Mexico, and The Bahamas. Steps of the Rotary Transition Program

  1. Interview conducted with Mesa Airlines
  2. Interview conducted with Coast Flight Training
  3. Upon successful completion of above requirements
  4. Pilot travels to Mesa Airlines HQ to be on boarded as a first officer
  5. Pilot goes on leave of absence for 90-120 days to complete the Rotary Transition Program at Coast Flight Training
  6. Pilot receives ratings from an approved flight training program of their choosing.
  7. Pilot completes required time for R-ATP or ATP
  8. Pilot transitions back to Mesa Airlines – flows back into systems training
  9. Upon completion of flight training, pilot fulfills 24-month commitment to Mesa Airlines

Compensation

  • First year base rate of $36 per flight hour.
  • Upgrade to captain in as little as 20 months.

* Unless eligible for upgrade (Based on Company Seniority and FAA Part 121 requirements)

Training

  • Rotor Transition Training is conducted at Coast Flight Training in San Diego, CA
  • First Officer training is conducted in our facility in Phoenix, Arizona
  • Pilots will receive FULL monthly guarantee pay of 76 hours/month once they have resumed in Mesa Airlines flight training
  • Company Paid ATP/CTP Course
  • The Company provides single-occupancy lodging during in-house training in Phoenix, Arizona.
  • Positive Space Travel for training events

Electronic Flight Bag

  • Mesa Airlines was the FIRST airline approved for Electronic Flight usage in ALL phases of flight.
  • All manuals and charts are issued electronically at no cost via a pilot provided iPad
  • Each pilot is required to have an iPad (2, 3, 4, Air, or Air2)
