SkyWest Airlines - First Officer

SkyWest is currently accepting applications for First Officers.

To be considered for a First Officer position, you must:

  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Hold a Commercial License with Multi-engine and Instrument Ratings
  • Possess a current first-class medical (verified at interview)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or able to show proof of right to work in the U.S. upon hire
  • Hold an FCC Radio License
  • English Proficiency Endorsement (EPE)
  • Have a current Passport
  • Must be available to work all hours, including nights, on any day of the week, including weekends and holidays
  • Based on pilot bidding seniority and other factors, must be available for a call-out with as little as a two hour notice. Call outs may occur at all hours, including nights, on any day of the week, including weekends and holidays
  • Be within three months of the minimum hour requirements detailed below

ATP Written Requirement:

  • SkyWest will provide the means to complete a SkyWest-approved CTP course for those who complete an application and successfully pass the pilot interview.

First Officer applicants must also meet one of the following minimums:

Meet the requirements to hold an ATP Certificate with at least 1,500 hours –

  • At least 23 years old
  • 500 hours of cross country
  • 100 hours of night
  • 75 hours of instrument
  • 25 hours of actual multi-engine
  • ATP written

Or

Meet the requirements to hold a Restricted ATP with –

1,500 hours

  • At least 21 years old
  • 200 hours of cross country
  • 100 hours of night
  • 75 hours of instrument
  • 25 hours of actual multi-engine
  • ATP written
  • Instrument and Commercial Rating earned under Part 141 at an approved institution

1,000 Hours

  • At least 21 years old
  • 60 semester credit hours of aviation-related coursework and transcripts
  • Bachelor's degree from an approved institution and proof of completion
  • 200 hours of cross country
  • 100 hours of night
  • 75 hours of instrument
  • 25 hours of actual multi-engine
  • ATP written
  • Instrument and Commercial Rating earned under Part 141 at an approved institution

750 Hours

  • Military pilot
  • DD-214 Honorable Discharge or record of current service
  • ATP written

SkyWest Minimum Requirements When Counting Helicopter or Glider Time

SkyWest Airlines recognizes the skills common to helicopter and glider flying. SkyWest will accept helo/glider time as part of an applicant's total time as long as they have a minimum of 250 PIC hours of fixed wing.

Canadian Clearance

Must possess and/or obtain and maintain a current passport (and applicable Visa, if necessary), with the ability to travel in/out of the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Bahamas without restriction.

Please note that some past criminal convictions, including DUI's, may prohibit travelers from gaining Canadian clearance without a Temporary Resident Permit or Criminal Rehabilitation. Applicants must verify their ability to travel in and out of Canada unrestricted.

Reserve for Flight Jobs

  • Initially, most pilot new hires can expect to be placed on reserve, depending on the needs of individual domiciles. In some cases, time spent on reserve can be substantial for flight jobs.
  • Ready reserves are also used and most likely utilized at domiciles or hubs.
  • Regular reserve policy requires a two-hour call out.
  • Pilots on reserve status must be available for this call out at all hours, including nights, on any day of the week, including weekends and holidays

Minimum Requirements:

  • Assist the Pilot- in- Command (PIC) in conducting the flight safely and efficiently
  • Assist the PIC and/or passenger service personnel as needed to ensure a prompt departure
  • Assist or relieve the PIC in manipulation of the flight controls of an aircraft while underway, including taxiing, takeoff and landing of such aircraft

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Must hold a FAA First Class Medical Certificate
  • Must be willing to fly assigned schedule based on pilot bidding seniority; including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
