College Bridge Program First Officer Requirements

Step 1: Enroll: Students enrolled in the designated major at Minnesota State University, Mankato that includes flight training to qualify for RATP under FAR 61.160.

Step 2: Apply:Applicants must apply for a College Bridge Program First Officer position by selecting the "Apply Now" button at the bottom of this page. Applicants must also:

  • Be at least a Junior or Senior
  • Have a Commercial Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine Rating.
  • Attend one in-person recruiting event and complete the required initial one-on-one interview (for entrance into the College Bridge Program).
  • Applicants will receive an email from Pilot Hiring after completing the required one-on-one (this will serve as enrollment confirmation into the Sun Country Airlines College Bridge Program).

Step 3: Flight Instructor Position:Applicants must secure a Flight Instructor position with North Star Aviation.

  • CFI (Certified Flight Instructor)
  • CFII (Certified Flight Instructor Instrument)
  • MEI (Multi-Engine Instructor) (optional)

Step 4: Request Interview for First Officer Position

  • Have completed 300 hours of Dual Flight Instruction in Aircraft with North Star Aviation.
  • Apply on-line at airlineapps.com
  • Applicants will receive an automatic email from Airline Apps.
  • Email Sun Country Pilot Hiring at pilothiring@suncountry.com to indicate their application is updated and they have an interest in interviewing for the First Officer position. Applications are then scored.
  • Selected applicants will be invited to interview for a First Officer position with Sun Country Airlines.

Step 5: Get Hired: Applicants must:

  • Receive a Contingent Job Offer (CJO) based on a successful interview, and graduate with the appropriate major, including flight training, to qualify for RATP under FAR 61.160

Flight Training

  • Pilots receive iPads for all flight manuals and navigational data

  • Starting Pay
    • $83.28/hour, 75 hours monthly guarantee first year.
  • Premium Pay
    • is available once off of Reserve starting at 150%
  • 100% Cancellation and Dead Head Pay

Minimum Qualifications to Start Class

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be able to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English Language
  • Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate
  • FCC Radio License
  • Valid US passport or valid Passport with Green Card and the ability to travel to and from all cities and countries served by Sun Country
  • Valid US driver's license
  • Recent flight experience preferred

Restricted ATP Eligible - 1000 Hours Minimum (Aviation College Background)

  • 1,000 total hours
  • 100 hours can be simulator time.
  • 250 hours needs to be PIC in an airplane
  • At least 21 years old
  • 200 hours of cross country (100 hours of which needs to be PIC cross country in an airplane)
  • 100 hours of night (25 hours of which needs to be PIC night in an airplane)
  • 75 hours of instrument
  • 25 hours of multi-engine
