Be sure to include a record of your military service according to these categories:

• Separated or Retired: Include a copy of your latest DD-214 (member 2 or 4 only) for ?verification of veterans’ preference.
• Retirees, O-4 or higher over 40 years of age: Under section 5 of U.S.C. 2108, applicants are not included in the definition of preference eligible unless they are a disabled veteran. If you have a service-connected VA disability rating (even 0%), include a copy of your VA disability lette .
• Active-duty: Provide an official “Statement of Service,” including name, date of birth, service branch, active-duty service start and anticipated separation dates, anticipated type of discharge, and current pay grade.
